Without much surprise, TikTok is very interested in the music streaming market. It could soon become a formidable competitor to Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music with “TikTok Music”.
TikTok is much more than a simple video sharing application, it has become a real business for the music world. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Chinese company launched its own music streaming app soon. Patent filings discovered by Insider suggest that TikTok is working on just that.
Nevertheless, TikTok Music would have another interesting feature not found on Spotify or Apple Music: commenting on music. This would allow users to directly give their opinion on a song, but also to identify other users, which will encourage the promotion of music for artists. With this feature, TikTok Music would define itself as a music platform as well as a social platform, which will set it apart from competitors. Eventually, TikTok Music could hurt Spotify, the market leader with more than 188 million premium users.
It’s not yet known if ByteDance plans to develop a music streaming app based on the foundation of Resso, or if the company is planning something completely different. One thing is for sure, the launch of an app like this could shake up the music streaming industry once again.
