As they prepare for the release of their debut album, London’s up an coming indie-rock quintet, The Horn, unveils their latest single and title track, ‘People Like Us’, produced by Danton Supple (known for his work with Coldplay). This song serves as a subtle, meandering, and climactic anthem of recognition and solidarity for those who often find themselves on the fringes of polarizing debates, extreme opinions, and the constant pressure to conform to society’s watchful gaze. According to the band’s lead singer, Jonny Taylor, it is dedicated to “the people who need to be acknowledged and understood for who they truly are.”

‘People Like Us’ commences with intricately woven guitars, gentle percussion, and contemplative vocals that introduce the unique perspective of the song. As the track unfolds, intermittent vocal bursts and escalating percussion tantalize the listener until a thrilling drum roll propels them into a climactic moment. Impactful drums, skilled bass, searing guitars, cinematic keys, and emotive vocals converge during the central refrain: “Don’t you wanna fit in this messed-up crazy world, ‘Cause I just wanna feel it before I leave this world.” This encapsulates the inherent tension of desiring acceptance from the world while refusing to conform solely for that purpose.

Last year, The Horn released their debut EP, Do It Now, following a string of successful singles, which won the online admiration of Notion, Atwood Magazine and Louder Than War, as well as support from wider mainstream media ITV, BT Sport and Talksport. Their rise so far has been defined by an unfiltered combination of attitude, ambition and a middle finger to authority.

Musically, The Horn’s sound can be defined as Britpop-infused indie-rock that fizzes with energy and angst. Wrapped up in the band’s hedonistic tales of London life, cautionary tales of growing up and the dismissal of being held back by rules, self-doubt or authority figures is a deeper meaning. Here, you’ll find the unique intergenerational exchange between two of the members, Nick and Jonny, who might have been born decades apart, and yet they’ve found endless common ground. It’s no secret that ageism plagues the music industry and it’s essential to The Horn’s creative output to prove that age really is just a number and to always bring the listener back to the timelessness of human experience.

The Horn is made up of bassist and songwriter, Nick True,  multi-instrumentalist Danny Monk, singer and guitarist Jonny Taylor, keyboardist Ed Cox and drummer Alex Moorse.

Listen to ‘People Like us':

Reflecting on the genesis of their new single, Jonny Taylor of The Horn recounts, “The track started as a melody I was humming at my flat in Hackney. Then Nick, Danny, and I developed it, and Ed and Danny added ethereal synths with a hint of Tame Impala’s ‘Currents.’ We crafted a vocal breakdown, and the chorus came together after Danton [Supple], our producer, visited us at Baker St studios; he said, ‘it needs a chorus.’ We finalized it later that year at Rak studios…”

Like all the tracks shared by The Horn since their introduction last year, ‘People Like Us’ embodies their confident and self-assured musical character.

The Horn’s debut album, ‘People Like Us’ is scheduled for release on November 3, 2023. A private listening session is available here.

Additionally, the band will be joining the UK legends Scouting For Girls on their tour later this year. Tour dates are provided below.
