We got to chat with Pete Beat around the release of his new single ‘Another Galaxy’. The artist is an adventurer in the space of all possible sounds. Making weird music for a weird age. Lyrical lyrics, funky beats, and amateur philosophy.

Hitswave got the chance to speak with Pete Beat about his new song.

Hi Pete Beat! How would you describe your sound?

Hello! I’d describe it as electronic Geordie folk, with big influences from the Beach Boys, the Smiths, the Beatles, Bowie, the Doors, Sinatra, and loads of dance and disco music.

Your new song ‘Another Galaxy’ is out. You’re talking about mental struggles in the track, is it important for you to shed light on mental health awareness? If not, what’s the meaning behind the song?

It very much is the story of this album, the songs are about that, some more explicitly so than others. I’d credit making music as helping recover. I think it’s also important to talk about it, to reduce the considerable stigma. While lots of people talk about anxiety, depression and OCD, precious few people talk about schizophrenia.

Alongside your music career, you’re a software engineer and created an Android/Windows game coming out in March. It will allow people to explore a world, talk to characters, and collect items that give parts to two songs from the album which can then be remixed, including Another Galaxy. How did you come up with that game idea?

I’ve made another game in the past – a text based adventure to promote my second album Nothing Is Perfect. I wanted to try something more ambitious this time, and I was trying to think of something that would let the player be creative, but also directly related to the album. The rest fell out from that.

Listen to 'Another Galaxy':

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given? (related to music or not)

Make the music you want to listen to.

Last but not least, what would you like to say to your fans?

Don’t worry, no one knows what they’re doing!

Thanks a lot Pete for this interview and we can’t wait to hear your next tracks!
