One of Japan’s tresasured voices releases a brilliant new single ‘Fantasy’ off her upcoming EP ‘In My Dreams’.
The In My Dreams EP offers a rich blend of neo-soul with jazz-infused instrumentals, masterfully produced by edbl from the UK, known for collaborating with artists like Kofi Stone, Conor Albert, and Kazuki Isogai. Featuring the delightful vocals of James Berkeley on the bilingual track “What’s On Your Mind” and Jay Alexzander.
The EP’s first single, “Fantasy,” sets the perfect mood for warm summer nights, enchanting listeners with RiE’s airy vocals and a captivating guitar solo by edbl mid-track.
“To me, edbl is a master of “keeping right amount of space” in his beats, but this tune has exceptionally stripped-down arrangement. I felt naked singing it, but because of that, I was able to express my “fantasy”,” RiE shares.

Born in Hiroshima, Japan, Rie discovered music as her life-long passion during college in Los Angeles. Living in LA, Rie was exposed to a wide range of music and especially influenced by Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and SADE which shaped her style – neo soul/new wave mix. Following graduation, she performed at hotel lounges, cafes as well as her own shows. She has worked with artists in both Japan and abroad.
Now, residing in Shonan – a beach town near Tokyo – she hosts a weekly radio show at Shonan beach FM. Her latest EP Here With You (produced by UK edbl) got a nationwide vinyl & CD distribution in Japan. Rie was selected for the Spotify editorial playlist cover “Soul Music Japan” in August, October and November 2022.
