Halde is the new solo project by cofounder and singer of Montreal-based indie pop band Groenland. Between 2013 and 2018, Groenland stood out with almost 3 millions views on their Youtube channel, more than 33 000 albums sold and sold out venues in Quebec and Europe. After the band’s success, Sabrina takes a step back to reassess and go through a long transformation triggered by the losses in her life. She moves into a little cottage in Chertsey to heal, create and reinvent herself.

Hitswave got the chance to speak with Halde about her new beginning.

Hi Halde, thanks for your time! Can you start by introducing yourself to our readers and tell us about the story behind your stage name?

Hi there ! Halde is my new solo project. I’m a co-founder of Groenland, a Montreal-based indie pop band who stopped its activity around 2018. I decided to take my last name to keep it simple, but also to make a dinsctinction with Groenland being more of a group effort.

You were a part of the band Groenland for 5 years and ‘The Flow’ is your first solo album. How does it feel to release music on your own now?

I needed to find some deep motivation to get this going on my own. It was scary, but it forced me to learn to be nice to myself, and to make some space for exploration. It’s a lot of work on your own, considering that I didn’t want to work with a label this time, but I’m learning so much, and it’s keeping me super grounded when I need some adjustments, and grateful when things go well.

Which song is your favorite out of the full album and why?

“Circles“ is my favorite song. It was the last to be created, and it was written in a beautiful flow, without too much effort. I love when that happens. There’s a chill vibe about it. I think it might be the style I’m going towards.

What is your dream collaboration?

I would love to work with Feist, Amelia Meath from Sylvan Esso or Caroline Rose. These women have such great talent and immaculate vibes.

What are your plans for the rest of the year/early 2023?

I play a few shows around Quebec, Canada. I think I also need to rest haha ! It’s been a full year of overwhelming work, and the fall seems to be the perfect time to slow down and think about the next steps. I want to play festivals and a few shows, and make a strategy for next year. I’m going with the flow for now, pun intended.
